Anselm practised as a solicitor for 25 years specialising in mental health, mental capacity and human rights law. He was subsequently appointed as a Judge of the Court of Protection, England and Wales’s mental capacity court (2010-2024) and as a Coroner and Tribunal Judge (2005-2010).
