I recently wrote a piece on procedural fairness in section 17 assessments where local authorities are drawing adverse inferences from non-disclosure of information by applicants claiming destitution. In that context, it was interesting to view a recent BBC documentary on the pressures of homelessness in Barking and Dagenham. The presenter travelled to the front line and interviewed members of staff in their offices. The camera panned to a pithy poster on the wall, revealing the Barking and Dagenham ABC: Assume nothing, Believe nothing, Check everything.
